This course provides an introduction to data mining within a business context. This course develops analytical programming skills for working with business data and applies them to data-mining techniques focused on pattern discovery to drive actionable business insights. Students learn how to acquire data from external sources, clean and transform datasets, and build reproducible code for exploratory analysis and data mining. Core topics include fundamental programming techniques, control structures, data manipulation, ethical data acquisition, data visualization, anomaly detection, pattern discovery, classification, dimension reduction, cluster analysis, and text analytics. Students will learn to apply data-mining methodologies to solve real-world business problems and extract actionable insights from large-scale datasets. Throughout the course, students will apply programming techniques to support evidence-based business decision-making.
