This is the first in a series of clinical courses which provides extensive opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge to the collaborative management of complex acute and chronic health conditions in adult and geriatric populations. Through the completion of 225 clinical hours with preceptors in a variety of diverse acute care settings, students integrate research and evidence-based guidelines to support diagnostic reasoning, clinical decision-making, health promotion, and disease prevention. Students refine advanced skills to promote adaptation and improve overall health status across the illness continuum. Students demonstrate competency in the provision, coordination, and direction of care for patients, utilizing both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies. Emphasis is placed on culturally sensitive communication and healthcare delivery to diverse and underserved rural and urban populations. Students practice systems-level leadership as active members of the interprofessional healthcare team, ensuring safe, high-quality care within the acute care setting.
